Campbeltown airport is located in Kintyre on the Argyll peninsula in Scotland.
The airport was formerly known as RAF Machrihanish, and hosted squadrons of the Royal Air Force
and other NATO airforces. Campbeltown airport is at a strategic point over the Irish sea, and was used to guard the
the Firth of Clyde where US nuclear submariens were based. Military operations ceased at the airport in 1997.
Today the airport serves Glasgow International Airport, from which a number of domestic and international
onward connections can be caught.
