Edinburgh airport is located 12km from the centre of Edinburgh, central Scotland. It is within easy access of
Fife, Tayside and Aberdeenshire, and the Borders. The airport began its life as an aerodrome during the first world war,
and was later converted into the RAF Turnhouse for the Royal Flying Corps in 1915. In 1947 the first
Edinburgh to London shuttle service was run. The airport was later bought by BAA in 1971 and six years later it was
officially opened as Edinburgh airport. 2003 saw 7.5 million passengers passs through its gates and a massive
108,000 aircraft movements. The airport underwent considerable renovations in 2001 and further expansions are proposed.
