History
- The first flight out of the airport was in 1902 when a Naval air balloon took off from here for surveying purposes.
- In 1934, Isle of Man air services was set up, and landing rights were secured for the airport.
- Work really started on developing the airport in 1935, and the following years resulted in new runways, larger hangars and a new terminal building.
- During WWII (in 1943) the airport was bought out with the purpose of becoming a Royal Navy Air station.
- After the war, the airport was sold back to the Isle of Man government, and its position as the island's civil passenger airport was resumed.
