Kent International Airport (KIA formerly London Manston) is located on the Thanet Peninsula just two miles west of Ramsgate. The airport first began as a seaplane base on the bay at Westgate-on-Sea back in 1914 and today Kent International is the gateway to the South East and useful for passengers not wanting to travel into London.
Since EU Jet went out of business during the summer of 2005, Kent International Airport was no longer offering passenger flights. Almost a year later (May 06), Kent Escapes launched 2 passenger flights from Kent to Barcelona and Faro.
In September 06 Kent International Airport hosted the launch event for the county's first direct flights to the USA which are due to start in the spring of 2007. Cosmos holidays and Monarch airlines will operate transatlantic flights between Kent International and Norfolk International Airport in Virginia.
