History
- The first flight into Tiree took place in 1935; and just one year after this, scheduled flights to and from Renfrew began.
- Work began to develop the runway for military use in 1940, and these developments were completed in 1941, in time for the aerodrome to be used for war purposes. Several squadrons were based here during the war; and the base was used for a variety of purposes, including anti-submarine and air-sea rescue.
- The airport was returned to civil status at the end of the war and in 1947 civil passenger flights recommenced from Tiree.
- This service was operated by BEA until 1974.
- BEA merged with BOAC in 1974 to form British Airways Scottish.
- In 1975 British Airways Scottish withdrew from the airport, and Loganair took over, and it is Loganair who operate from Tiree to this day.
